“GIVE IT BACK TO THE COMMUNITY in PHILIPPINES by CYPHERCODE”
The Republic of the Philippines is an island nation located in Southeast Asia. Although it is not a large country, it has a population of over 100 million people, making it the 12th largest country in the world. Currently, the number of BBOYs is increasing, and top BBOYs with Filipino roots are active all over the world. In the Philippines, there is a project called KAPAYAPAAN PROJECT, which is run by BBOYs. Kapayapan means "peace" in Tagalog, the language of the Philippines. This project teaches dance to children growing up in impoverished areas through HIPHOP culture, while holding a school in their gardens two days a week to teach them English, math, art, and more. This organization is run by BBOY MOUSE, who was born in the Philippines and currently lives in the UK, and members of SAS CREW, a local Filipino crew representing Southeast Asia.
Their base is a town called Baclaran, located in the center of Manila. There is a huge market, and there are always a lot of people coming and going. It is a city that is easily accessible and allows you to feel the lifestyle and dynamism of the Filipino people.
On the other hand, this city is said to be the second most unsafe place in Manila, and since the change of president there has been no end to police crackdowns on drugs, shootings, and crimes. The parents of a boy participating in the Kapayapan project were also shot dead in this town three months before our visit.
What do these people think about living in this city, and why do they teach HIPHOP?
And what does HIPHOP mean to them? . .

Participated in this project as a CYPHERCODE CREW in March 2017. As part of our efforts to "GIVE IT BACK TO THE COMMUNITY," we provided a BREAKIN FREE WORKSHOP and provided clothing. This is a short documentary video that summarizes the footage from that time.
